Escrima Drill Training

Image
You could try to follow along with this video to have mastery over the movements. If not, you could try imitating some of it. It all starts with you getting some dual sticks and then trying to mimic what this lady is showing. You might not get it at first but be patient with yourself. After many or even a few tries, you'll be able to develop the right muscle memory for the strikes. It's already set in slow motion so it would be easy for you to move along the video. Good luck on your journey to learning and mastering escrima.

Arnis Basic Strikes

It might be challenging to learn how to do different Arnis , Escrima , or Kali strikes without knowing the standard target regions. But it can be far more difficult to swing a stick if you don't know how to strike with proper form. To avoid injuries and hit targets better, you may want to introduce yourself to the basic strikes that most kali disciplines make use of. They are as follows: 1. The Ekis or the X strikes involves two downward diagonal strikes from the left and right side of the body. It draws the letter X when done correctly and is intended to hit the temples or sides of the head. 2. The Banda y Banda or striking from right to left or left to right. The motion of the stick has to be horizontal and can help in hitting the sides of the face or the elbows or triceps. 3. Ocho means the number 8 and it uses two upward diagonal strikes. Doing this is like drawing a number 8 on its side or an infinite symbol. It is for striking the chin or the knees. 4. The Doblete is lik...

Inspirational Classic Video Games for Arnis Training

When it comes to stick fighting, you ought to do more than practice. To keep yourself interested in the art, learn or create some moves, and become inspired to do better, you may want to try playing some video games. But don't just play any games. Go for those that heavily make use of hand-held weapons such as blades, long poles, and even escrima sticks. In playing, you not only get relief but also the opportunity to improve your reflexes and simulate fighting through a game character. If playing some titles is what appeals to you, you should try checking out some Neo-Geo games that I personally recommend to kali practitioners: The Last Blade The Last Blade 2 Samurai Shodown Samurai Shodown II Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge Samurai Shodown V Samurai Shodown V Special Samurai Shodown VI

Some Self Defense Thoughts this November 2020

I've been reading a lot of martial arts lately and even started practicing arnis, escrima or kali again. Why? I can't shake off this feeling that something's about to happen. I'm someone who promotes optimism and positiveness but there are just some things that bring out the defensiveness in me. Because of the limited resources right now and the present condition of the economy, I'm just making myself ready for anything. You can't expect people to just sit and do nothing about their problems. Countries in need of resources and that have different political interests may have serious disagreements and such. It comes as no surprise why so many in the world right now are thinking that some nations are ready to overpower others. But this isn't to say that it's just to be paranoid nowadays. These are only practical ideas. Because of the possibility that trouble may surface, I started working on my self-defense skills again. It's not even only because oth...

Modern Arnis by Remy Presas

Image
Remy Presas may have passed on but his legacy continues. His way of manipulating arnis sticks made it simple for a lot of people to get into the Filipino Martial Arts called escrima, arnis, or kali. He's definitely one of the best teachers there is when it comes to practical combat training. What's unique about his art is that he teaches people how to strike hard and strike fast while keeping the flow of the blade or stick going. With his craft, you can learn how it is to attack, defend yourself, and think things through fast while a fight is going on. If you're interested to know more about him and how he did his thing when he was alive, buy his book about Modern Arnis or watch videos of him like this one on websites like YouTube. If you're interested in doing what he did then buy some 28-inch rattan sticks to follow along with his comprehensive lessons. You won't always find a stick to defend yourself with or to attack an assailant but he covers that too by teachi...
